Winter is almost over (at least in Chattanooga) and it will be rally time very soon. The annual VCRA All Stars for Autism Rally in Springfield, Missouri, kicks things off April 23-27. It is always a fun event and a great way to get your car out of storage and on the road again and ready for the rally season.
Rex Gardner, who heads up VCRA, expects another big field of racers in the Show Me State. Entries are still being accepted, and you can contact Rex at 918-801-2406 or go to his website at www.vintagecarrally.com. Through the years VCRA has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars to help children with autism including more than $100,000 in the last two years on the Great Race.
The next rally of 2014 will be the Penn-York Rally in Beach Lake, Pa., May 16-18. It is being put on by our old friend Corky Rutledge and the Northeast Rally Club to raise money for the volunteer fire department. To enter, or for more information, check out www.northeastrallyclub.com.
The granddaddy of all of the regional rallies the Sugar Valley Rally in Scottsbluff, Neb. will be held May 30-June 1. More information on this rally can be found at www.sugarvalleyrally.com.
And of course the Big Race the Great Race will be held June 21-29 with the start in Maine and the finish in Florida and $150,000 in prize money. There are still a few spots available for teams that want to enter the Great Race. Call Jeff Stumb at 800-989-7223 or email him at [email protected].
In the fall the Coker Tire Challenge will be held in Chattanooga Sept. 18-21 and the Pumpkin Run will be held in Millsboro, Del., Oct. 17-19. More information will follow on those rallies later in the year.
My wife and I can’t wait to see all of our old friends at the VCRA rally in Springfield. It has been a long winter and it is now time to get the cars out and hit the road.
Gary & I are anxious to be back on the road with our friends. I agree with Jeff, it’s been a long winter and time to enjoy driving the vintage cars.
Ian and I are looking forward to seeing everyone in Springfield. The Michigan winter that we are having is, (we hope), coming to an end soon. Can’t wait to start rallying. My little Model A wants the dust shaken off her and is ready to head West in April.
