Happy Fathers Day from Gardnerville, Nevada! Yesterday is such a blur!
From an awesome start in San Rafael, where thousands of people lined the streets we headed east to Sacramento, CA. I learned about freeway traffic and the congestion that troubles that star. As wide as the freeways are and as many lanes that exist, our route took us past Sonoma Raceway on our way to Sacramento. Within Sacramento is a historic section, called Old Sacramento. That is where we welcomed the Great Racers and where they ended their first day! With its old store fronts, wooden sidewalks and period costumes it was a fabulous setting.
Truthfully, by the time we reached the hotel, MoroMouth had reached exhaustion; settled into his room, had a quiet dinner and called it a day.
Sunday morning saw everyone refreshed and ready to hit the road. I am navigating today as my driver and colleague announcer, Dennis Pittsenbarger is behind the wheel…does he like to go! The road was a beautiful ending climb to almost 8,000. feet, through Truckee, CA, skirting Lake Tahoo and down to cross the Nevada state line to arrive at Gardnerville, NV. The weather is perfect…the noon crew is putting the finishing touches on the noon set-up and MotorMouth is raring to go. For you folks back in Sacramento, watch for the Great Race story in the Sacramento B on Monday. I’ve just finished an interview with that news writer…
Time for a bite and then “show time”!
