Great Race 2013

Editor’s note: The following information came to us from our friend Wally Burchill at the Minnesota Street Rod Association, the organization which puts on the Back to the 50s Weekend in St. Paul each year. More than 12,000 cars and 120,000 people will attend, making it the largest three-day car show in the world. And the Great Race will start right in the middle of the event this summer.

The 2013 Minneapolis Auto Show opened to the public on Saturday April 9th with some surprising vehicles garnering a lot of attention which were not current models the public could buy at their local dealers on Monday.

For nine days the Minnesota Street Rod Association (MSRA) participated in the annual event with a display of member vehicles that included Street Rods, Customs, 50’s and 60’s cars, and two of the 2013 Great Race participant vehicles.

Featured at the show were the 1961 Cadillac convertible of Frank and Linda Ramisch and the Dave Sandberg’s 1932 Ford pick-up. Both were decked out with their Great Race participant door emblems and an array of sponsor decals. During the show MSRA members were on hand to talk about the cars and the “Back to the 50’s Weekend” which is the sponsor for the Grand Start of this year’s race.

Considerable interest was generated surrounding the fact that the Great Race would be starting in St Paul this year, as the last time the race passed through Minnesota was in 1994. For more information on the “Back to the 50’s Weekend” show go to the MSRA website at http://msrabacktothe50s.com/

Hope to see you in St Paul in June!

  • Well I might be overstating the obvious but can we assume Coker Tire is sponsoring the “burn out Contest” in St. Paul?
