Throughout the history of the Hemmings Motor News Great Race presented by Hagerty, it has been a priority to encourage youth to participate, be it as a racer or part of the staff. Eventually, a special class was created for young automotive enthusiasts who wanted to pilot a vintage car in the Great Race. This class would be known as the X-Cup division, and it’s still going strong to this day. Continue reading for a great explanation of the X-Cup division, as well as a few testimonials and photos from former X-Cup participants, who went on to be Great Race winners!
That good looking fellow the second from the left is Greg Cunningham back in the late 1990s with his buddies from Ponca City (Oklahoma) High School. That distinguished gentleman the second from the right is J.D. Hanks, the longtime mentor to Ponca City students and a Great Race icon.
