Almost three dozen Great Race cars arrived in San Rafael Monday by eight Reliable Carriers transporters for the start of the 2016 event later this week. And more are expected Tuesday and Wednesday as participants gather in northern California from around the country and around the world. Great Racers from Jim Menneto from Vermont and Chad and Jennie Caldwell from Georgia have already arrived and are preparing for the start Saturday morning at 8 a.m. on Fourth Street in downtown San Rafael. The city of San Rafael is getting ready for the event with banners across downtown streets and hanging from lamp posts. The official start will be at 10 a.m. with the first car being given the green flag.
