We have just learned of the passing of Great Race legend Wayne Fredette in Illinois on January 11. Wayne was a longtime Great Race participant and the Spirit of the Event winner in 2011. Wayne and his wife Lyda along with Jeff, Eric, Kim, Richard and Ken have long been fixtures on the event, and Wayne raced with just about everyone in the family at one time or another over the years.
Even as Wayne’s health declined in recent years and left him unable to compete in a vehicle you could always count on him to be at the finish line every day waiting to greet the racers, especially the two Fredette teams.
Christie Fredette told us that Wayne enjoyed every minute of it, and if you ever spent any time with him on the race you already knew that.
Wayne will be missed by his family and he will be missed by his Great Race family as well.
We have all lost a great friend. He was an inspiration and always a true gentleman. Keeping the family in our prayers.
Wayne you were what Great Racing is all about! You will be missed by all.
Sad News. Our condolences and prayers to the family. We met them on the 2013 Great Race and they are all very nice people.

Wayne, like the entire Fredette family, is something special. He will be missed by the entire Great Race family.
Just catching up & saw the news. My regards to The Fredette family & Richard especially who has been nothing but a good friend. Best Always
The 2013 Pumpkin Run is the first rally that Wayne missed in the last several years. He was a hero to all of us in the Northeast Rally Club and members of the Millsboro Volunteer Fire Company. Lida, there has never been a more loving and caring wife than you, there was nothing that you didn’t do to make Wayne happy, thanks for bringing him to Delaware for so many years.
