In just under four months the Great Race will start in Jacksonville, Florida with 120 antique and classic automobiles taking the green flag on Main Street in the Historic Springfield district of the city. Those on the 2014 Great Race will remember the reception the participants got as they entered Jacksonville as part of the Historic Springfield Main Street Cruise. The Cruise happens every fourth Saturday of the year in Jacksonville and it draws thousands of cars and tens of thousands of spectators. They just cruise up and down Main Street and enjoy live music and good food.
Saturday morning, June 24, at 8 a.m. the Great Race cars will assemble on Main Street and the official start of the event will be at 10 a.m. The Great Race cars will leave one minute apart for two hours as they begin the journey to Tifton, Ga., that day and to the ultimate destination of Traverse City, Michigan, nine days and 2,400 miles later for the finish of the event.
