It’s day three of the 2023 Hemmings Motor News Great Race presented by Coker Tire and we’re marking two more states off of our list. We started the morning in Birmingham, Alabama, and hit the highway in search of our rally starting point for the day. After winding through rural Alabama, we crossed into Mississippi for more back road action. The lunch stop in Tupelo, Mississippi was sunny and hot, but we grabbed some shade and a quick lunch before resuming the rally. The afternoon route included more scenes of rural America, and that included a short, but treacherous stretch of unpaved road. Finally, we ended the day’s timed route at Sardis Lake with a beautiful view from the elevated roadway. Our evening stop included a visit to Graceland, and the whole gang is staying at the Guesthouse at Graceland. After a tough day on the course, it was Brad and Dan Epple winning the daily overall with a score of 6.72 seconds. Despite some bumpy roads and obstacles in our way, we keep on rolling. Stay tuned for more action as we hit our sixth state tomorrow!
I look forward to seeing you guys in Eureka Springs, Ar, tomorrow…
Racers: The next couple of days you will be in the very heart of VCRA country. We wish you a fun filled and safe rally. For medical reasons, neither Victor T. nor Charlie McK will be able to attend, but look for other VCRA crew members to cheer you on.
When you can, take time to remember our mutual friend, Rex Gardner, and the person in your life that is on the Autism spectrum.
Love the pictures, please keep them coming, even if repeated cars, love them…..
You have to post some good pictures of the Bluesmobile PLEASE!!!
Is that a motorcycle in the race?
There were three motorcycles that left from St Augustine when we watched the start!
Great photos… I know how much work that is to get those images.
Brad and Dan Epple, congratulations!

Loved seein you guys roll thru our town (Hamilton, AL) yesterday!!! I’ve participated in the HRPT last year and hadn’t heard of this before so I was glad to see it, so many great cars and such a great sunny day to be driving. maybe someday I’ll get my project car together for this!!
What a wonderful car enthusiast’s event ! It’s now on my bucket list and can’t wait to participate someday! Love all the variety of cars and years! Heard they were rolling in to our small town of Russellville, AR for the night. Can’t wait to go see them!
Kudos to all the teams who make a good show and all the photos look easy, but we know it’s not.
Can we hear more about some of the mechanical challenges teams have overcome and how they have succeeded to keep the classic cars going? Everybody loves the will power to stay in the race and tenacity of the teams to beat the elements to the next stop.
Thanks
