With such an epic Day 1 of the Hemmings Motor News Great Race presented by Hagerty behind us, we started our second day of Route 66 adventures in our overnight host city of Springfield, Missouri. We hit the road bright and early, and did our speedometer calibrations, on our way to the first waypoint of the day–the Joplin 44 truck stop in Joplin, Missouri. Our friends (and sponsors) at Cat Scales helped out ALL of the Great Race participants, support and staff with a free fill-up at the pump. Now that’s service! From there, we motored to Claremore, Oklahoma for a packed-out lunch stop at the Expo Center. And then it was back to serious rallying as we passed through small towns, such as Stroud, Oklahoma and past scenic Route 66 landmarks along the way.
We ran across the Great American Tour while they were spending some time in Miami, Oklahoma. We’re spending the night in downtown Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, overlooking the awesome Bricktown Ballpark, where the OKC Dodgers are taking on the Memphis Red Birds. Our evening ceremonies here in OKC were spectacular with an awesome turnout of folks down Mickey Mantle Drive. As a special treat, the folks at Sonic (headquartered in OKC and sponsors of this year’s Great Race) gave every member of the Great Race family a gift card to Sonic to enjoy either tonight or later on down the road. Pretty cool! Check out our favorite shots of the day and stay tuned for the scores!
How can we get to see pictures of each individual contestant and their cars as in the program.
That info must already exist somewhere?
Any way to do that?
Please advise.
Love the coverage.
Thanks,
Mick & Jean Olender
I’m looking for a picture of car number 6 Cunningham/McAbee. Is there a place I can go to see more of the cars. I’ve been following on Facebook and the web site and haven’t seen nothing. Thanks Jennifer
