We covered a lot of ground on the first day of the 2015 Hemmings Motor News Great Race presented by Hagerty. We started our day with an enormous start in historic downtown Kirkwood, Missouri and headed West to get started on our Route 66 adventure. We passed lots of cool attractions, including the Wagon Wheel Motel and the World’s Largest Rocking Chair, on our way to the lunch stop in Rolla, Missouri. Then, we continued West on and off Route 66, over scenic bridges and made a few elevation changes on our way to Springfield, Missouri for our overnight stop. Despite a few mishaps on the road, we had a successful day of Great Racing, and we hope to continue tomorrow as we move into Oklahoma! Stay tuned!
Lots of new cars and racers. Wish I could be there, but I’m following in spirit!
We at (Team Vick) were one of the mishaps on the first day (first leg).An accident put us out of the race and we are so disappointed that we can’t be with everyone at the finish line. We would like to thank everyone for their kindness and making us feel like family as rookies. We hope to see everyone next year and wish all, a safe and enjoyable Great Race.
My daughter and stumbled across the race in Sullivan MO. We wish we could have spent the day watching and photographing the cars and participants! I have not had the opportunity to surf your site yet, but will as soon as I can free up a few minutes. I do want to learn more about this event with hopes of possibly participating as a photographer. Both of us have the American weakness of loving our motorized vehicles!
