Longtime Great Race sponsor Champion Oil has announced a new award including a beautiful glass trophy and $1,000 in Champion Brands products to the highest placing team in the 2015 Great Race using its motor oil.
Teams must declare at Tech Inspection that they have Champion Oil already in their vehicle or if they want to have it put in prior to the start of the race. To buy it in advance, Champion Oil has set up a website that will allow competitors to purchase motor from their favorite retailer. To make a purchase from those retailers, including Great Race sponsor Honest Charley Speed Shop, please click this link: http://www.championbrands.com/GreatRace2015.html
Karl Dedolph, Director of Racing & Performance Products for Champion Oil and a past competitor in the Great Race, will be in Kirkwood, Mo., for the start of the event again this year. And he will have a tent set up at Tech Inspection to promote Champion products and so teams will have the opportunity to buy Champion Oil in Kirkwood and take it to an area oil changing facility to have it changed for the oil currently in their car.
Dedolph will also be giving a seminar on Thursday, June 18, at the Holiday Inn in Kirkwood, like the one he did two years ago in St. Paul, on the differences in motor oils that was attended by more than 50 participants. The trophy and the $1,000 in Champion Brands products will be award

I attended Karl’s lecture in St. Paul, and visited the factory on a VCRA regional. This is a MUST for anyone who doesn’t want to rebuild their engine right after having just done so. You simply can’t get the same results from mixing a ZDDP additive with regular oil. I have a fresh engine in my ’64 Studebaker, and I will be using Champion products in it.
David Lowe, Karl Dedolph and Steve Plaster at Champion Brands have been great friends of the Great Race for many years. All three are Great Race veterans and I urge all participants to support our fantastic sponsors. Karl will be in Kirkwood to see the racers off, and he may possibly be in Santa Monica for the finish. David and Steve will not be able to participate in the Great Race this year, but Steve’s son Christian Munzner and one of his friends will be representing Champion Brands in the event along Route 66.
