We are getting closer to officially kicking off the 2015 Hemmings Motor News Great Race presented by Hagerty. Tomorrow is the big day, as 117 cars will be taking the green flag from downtown Kirkwood, Missouri and blasting across Route 66 on our way to Santa Monica, California. Tomorrow will be one of our busiest days of the race, but today had plenty of stuff going on as well. It all started with our General Meeting, then Rally School and then everyone took off on the Hagerty Trophy Run, which is essentially a warm-up rally to prepare for the big race. It was yet another rainy day here in the St. Louis area, as the racers headed into Illinois, so they could cover all of the states that Route 66 runs through. When we got back to the host hotel in Kirkwood, it was time for the opening banquet, which was a ’50s themed event. It was a blast, with good food, an excellent band (Hudson and the Hoo Doo Cats) and of course the awards for the Trophy Run winners. It was a great day, but keep an eye on our Instagram and Facebook pages tomorrow for lots of updates!
