Gardnerville, Nevada will be the lunch stop on Fathers Day on Sunday, June 19, on the Great Race, and the local community is working hard toward it being selected the best city on the 2016 event. The stop will take place in Heritage Park with the scenic Sierra Nevada Mountains in the background (they may still have snow on the tops when we arrive).
The first car will arrive in Gardnerville from Sacramento at 12:30 p.m., and the racers will be greeted by thousands of spectators and hundreds of local classic cars. Local photographers will take pictures of the cars as they arrive and as they leave with local landmarks behind them and the racers will have opportunities to obtain those photographs via computer after they return home.
With the first big challenge behind them the Sierra Nevada Mountains the racers will head off for the second overnight stop of the event in Reno at the National Automobile Museum.
