The Automobile Driving Museum in El Segundo, California is celebrating the 2016 Great Race along the Lincoln Highway by displaying several current and former Great Race automobiles through March 31. Many southern California racers, including Steve and Janet Hedke, Brad and Erin Kaplan, Bob Marak and Milt Thomas have provided vehicles for the display. The exhibit will also feature rare archival photographs from Lincoln Highway collectors.
The Great Race will start in San Rafael, California just on the north side of the Golden Gate Bridge on Saturday, June 18, and trek eastward through California, Nevada, Utah, Wyoming, South Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa and Illinois, much of it on the original Lincoln Highway. We are taking a little side trip off the Lincoln Highway to visit Mr. Lincoln at Mount Rushmore in South Dakota, race director Jeff Stumb said.
The Great Races relationship with the Automobile Driving Museum started last summer when the event traveled Route 66 and finished in Santa Monica. The ADM sponsored the Never Say Die Award and presented Yoshiaki and Reiko Ninomiya of Japan with a personalized, hand-made trophy.
