Buddy Green was born with a birth certificate that reads Detroit, Michigan. He grew up and went to school in the Detroit metro area in the late 60s, 70s and early 80s. To car people that would explains a lot about what has always been his burning passion. Heavy metal Detroit Muscle is his first and almost only choice for the collection. He enjoys a successful relationship with Michelle Clark, who is also an enthusiast and collector car owner. She humorously calls the shop where they store their cars Money Pit Garage. Hopefully shes just joking.
After school in Michigan and a short stint in southern California, Buddy moved to North Carolina and never looked back. He started a job as a commercial construction superintendent in 1986. It was a position he readily admits he was honored to have, but was not qualified for and did not deserve. Luck and some hard work helped him overcome the lack of experience at a very young age. Shortly after that he met a guy named Mark Self. Mark (who is head of The Licensing Board for North Carolina) convinced him to study for then take the North Carolina General Contractors exam. In 1988, he reluctantly took his new friends advice and passed. More than 25 years later he maintains several licenses and has operated his own commercial contracting firm which he founded in 1996.
Buddy Has 2 children, AJ, 16, and Carly, 11. He got started with The Great Race several years ago through his dads encouragement. He and his father have run two Great Races together and several other smaller rallies. A couple years ago Bill Green, Buddys father, took a support role but can always be seen at the stops along the way.
Today, Buddy lives in Wilmington, North Carolina. He and Michelle are very active in their church and their community. He has not lost the passion for hot rod cars and is always hunting for the next trend in the industry. He is looking forward to his fifth consecutive Great Race this June. Youll also find him at automobile auctions, clubs and events where like-minded people gather.
