Penn College of Philadelphia will be entering an X-Cup team in the 2014 Great Race, and they were at Hershey promoting their upcoming venture and showing off their car. The college, being mentored by Jeff Mahl and Great Racer Jack Crabtree, is currently raising funds to fix up the 1932 Buick they purchased to run in the Great Race. The entire team was at Hershey, including the dean of the college.
The Antique Automobile Club of America was there in support of the college as well, with national directors Myron Smith, Steve Rinaldo and Jeff Stumb in attendance.
Other supporters of the team are former Great Racer Doug Seybold and Pat Swigart of the Swigart Museum in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania.
The X-Cup division pits high school and college teams in the Great Race against each other to foster the restoration of vehicles and to introduce youngsters to antique car rallies.
The Penn College X-Cup team joins the team from McPherson College in Kansas and high school teams from Mobile, Alabama; Ponca City, Oklahoma; and Galax, Virginia; planning on participating in the 2014 Great Race.
Our restoration facility is located in Philadelphia and would like the opportunity to help with any restoration needs for the car.
We are also looking for a car for the 2014 race and will be building a team soon!
Looking forward to this unique opportunity
