Yet another day of rallying has placed us firmly into the South, and you can certainly tell by the temperature! Upper 90’s made for a hot, sweaty and sunny day behind the wheel, but we did find an interesting farm sprinkler on a back road somewhere in Arkansas. The farmer may have misjudged the projection of his mega sprinkler, and it ended up spraying on the racers! Aside from the quick cool down, today’s route was grueling. We started at 7am in Germantown, Tennessee and drove 225 miles to our lunch stop in the small town of Monticello, Arkansas. We had a great crowd, and then witnessed LOTS of great crowds lining the streets as we passed through small towns such as Parkdale, Arkansas. Then, we rallied our way into Louisiana for a few minutes, and then back into Mississippi for our evening stop in Vicksburg. Again, we saw a very nice turnout in the downtown area, and ate a scrumptious meal, while listening to some authentic blues. Here are our favorite shots of the day!
We’re looking forward to taking the grandsons to see ya’ll in Baton Rouge tomorrow night.
I really enjoyed the day as the cars came through Parkdale, Ar. I took a picture of every car as it came out of the checkpoint. It was really HOT and I know the participants must have struggled with the discomfort of the heat and humidity.
How exciting to have The Great Race come to Covington LA tomorrow! All participates are invited to enjoy breakfast or lunch or High Tea – come in and receive complimentary tea ( ICED or a pot of tea)
We have great food and refreshing delicious tea- over 160 different teas. Refuel and refresh with us at The English Tea Room – our way to welcome the Great Race to Covington LA tomorrow!
Traveled about 100 miles to see the Great Race at Vicksburg, MS. It was a hot steamy day but it was worth it just to be able to see all the old vintage cars and meeting people from different parts of the country. Looking forward to maybe some day seeing the race come through Mississippi again.

P. S. Keep up the good work. America needs you!!
Thanks for stopping in Vicksburg. Sorry for the heat.
Great to have y’all visit with us in Vicksburg last evening. Everyone enjoyed seeing the beautiful cars rolling down our streets. PLEASE excuse the horrible heat and humidity that greeted you. Think turnout would have been even better if Heat Index wasn’t 106 when you came rolling in..THANKS AGAIN…..
Wife Shirley&I are Great Race 2003 Veterans, know Bob Mead, follow Great Race events as close as possible. What a fantastic venue for old car fans. Keep up the good work.
