Doug and Dana Sharp won the annual Pumpkin Run in Millsboro, Delaware in their 1916 Hudson Hillclimber, besting 36 other vehicles in the rally. The couple from Fairport, New York posted a 17.16 second score with Dana subbing in place of Dougs usual driver, his father Howard Sharp. They edged out Gary and Jean Ann Martin in their 1964 Chevrolet Nova who traveled all the way from Kentucky and finished with a score of 18.43 seconds. Third place went to newly-married Scott and Sarah Hudson from New York in their 1954 Chevrolet Bel Air with 23.92 seconds.
Rookie winners were Olivia and Genna Gentry from Newnan, Georgia in their 1964 Dodge Dart convertible. They were also 11th overall with a score of 1 minute, 27.3 seconds. It was the largest rookie field ever in the Pumpkin Run with six first-time teams.
John Hudson was awarded the Sister McRae Spirit of the Event Award at the closing banquet Sunday afternoon.
The annual event is a fund-raiser for the Millsboro Fire Company. This year the event, spearheaded by Great Racer Bob Bryan, was able to donate $6,800 to the fire company and another $500 to the local police needy family fund. The Pumpkin Run is associated with the Northeast Rally Club, and more information can be found on the Pumpkin Run and other NERC events at www.northeastrallyclub.com.
Great job to my friends Doug and Dana Sharp. And congratulations to my buddy John Hudson on the well-deserved recognition.
WAAAY to go Doug and Dana….yet another FIRST for the Sharp racing team!!!
And to John Hudson… you are making us Chevrolet Stovebolt people proud, and helping the next generation to carry on the tradition. Good Job!!
Wish we could have made it! Still glad to be alive despite that little no-brakes incident on the way there. Next year, for SURE!
Thanks to everyone for the kind thoughts and words in the loss of our wife and mom Johanne Rutledge. She was a real friend to the rally and we all miss her very much.
